Rocking the Ruck

Rating: 4
from 9 members ratings

You've only got 5 seconds to free the ball and win back possession for your team in the ruck - that's why it's imperative your team know their role to play when it comes to winning and securing a ruck.

To help your players execute the correct technique this session puts your players in realistic situations, designed to improve their decision making - so that came the end of training they'll know what we mean by "Clearing the threat!"

What's in the Session?

Four progressive practices, starting in small groups and slowly building towards the final game. Throughout this session we reinforce correct (and safe) technique when entering a ruck including:

  • Chin off chest and head up. Look over your eyebrows. Enter low to high. Take short steps before contact...

Try this session tonight to encourage quick rucks and get your players thinking about the threat on approach.

I modified the pod ruck drill to allow the pods to recycle. We used two pods and attacked 4 stations. This forced the players to get up quick and set up for the next crash
