This is a very good question, and a key fundamental that many players overlook when deciding upon a new bat. Ultimatly, the incorrect choice of bat can effect the batters perfromace an execution of key shots and skills. The following shoud provide a general guideline to selecting the right bat for you%3A

 

1) The bat must be the correct size (the general rume for this is that the end of the  bat handle should be about groin height from a standing position)

 

2) The bat must be the correct weight - the temptation is to get a heavier bat so you can hit the ball further...do not be fooled - a bat that is troo heavy could well result in you playing the ball too late (if at all!) and getting out.

 

3) Pick -up - I would always advise where possible to pick the bat up yourself, in the shop or factory. This way you know if the bat will be right for you.

 

4) Looks - DO NOT WORRY! - I know it is hard to get yuour head around, but if the bat feels right, it usually is right. Stickers make the bat looknice, but it is the wood itself that will assist your play.

 

5) Big profile? Be wary about how much wood your bats have. Yes you want a light pick up awith lots of wood, but be careful taht quality hasnt been comprimised to achieve this. If you want a bat to last longer, then it ideally shouldnt be pressed as much.
