Hi Christian,

We made this our question of the week on our Facebook page last night and you received this answer Anthony:

"Penalty instead of Dropout 22. Penalty is taken from centre of 22m Line."

Hope this helps,

If the foul play occurs out of play, i.e within the "in goal" area then under Law 10.4 (n) the penalty kick is awarded at the place where play would normally take place.  Given that the drop oout 22 can take place anywhere on the 22 you pick the middle for the restart - this is the same if the ball is kicked directly into touch at a drop out, or there is a player in front (offside) then the scrum re-start would be at the centre of the 22m line.

Misconduct while the ball is out of play.

A player, must not, while the ball is out of play,

commit any misconduct, or obstruct or in any way interfere with an opponent.

Sanction:

Penalty kick

The sanction is the same as for sections 10.4 (a)-(m) except that the penalty kick is

awarded at the place where play would restart. If that place is on the touchline or within 15

metres of it, the mark for the penalty kick is on the 15-metre line, in line with that place.
