Sport England recently released a new campaign, named This Girl Can, encouraging women to be active no matter what age, body type and level they are.

It isn't about the need to lose weight, just to enjoy taking part in sport or any physical activity.

This Girl Can: The campaign uses real-life women in their advert (opposed to professional sports women) to show others that it is OK to be active no matter who you are.

Research carried out by Sport England indicated that 2 million fewer women are active compared to men. However 75% want to do more.

The chief executive of Sport England - Jennie Price - has said that when researching for this campaign, one of the strongest factors for not being active was "a fear of judgement about how they look or whether they're good at it."

The key message of this campaign is don't be afraid to get out and enjoy sport; being active benefits your health and well-being in so many ways. Being active from a young age will benefit your health, and it also is proved to be a good stress-reliever through scientific research. Whether you want to get involved with a sports team or take up running, there's something for everyone in exercise.
