Individual Skills - Catching

Just as important as kicking skills is the ability to successfully catch the ball in a controlled manner.

To execute the catch properly a player needs clearly to identify that he is to be the catcher, once they have done that they need to keep their eyes on the ball and call "my ball" to communicate clearly their intentions to the other members of the team. Then move quickly to the spot where the ball will land, making sure that the catcher is side on the the attacker. Create a wide base with the legs to ensure a good balanced position and also a position in which the catcher will be able to jump at catch the ball if under extreme pressure.
