Hot to teach basketball spacing
Play 2 v 1 game in a 4m by 4m grid (Possession game) - Attacker can only make chest pass. No high pass or bounce pass. - Change defender after 2 interceptions by defender.
If you are familiar with Rick Torbett and his 5-out offense called the "read and react", the use of cones, chairs or floor dots are all great tools to help teach spacing on the floor and reaction of what happens with or without the ball when an action takes place. I would start with cones or floor dots to help you with this issue.
I have attached a basic 5-out pass and cut motion, which is very good at laying the foundation to younger players about understanding spacing and timing.
From this set, you can add in dribble drive, screens, change to a 4out 1 in set.
But understanding the basic movement, spacing and timing is the key!
What you say: Very useful format and descriptions of drills. I am using Sportplan to update and formalise my trainings. |
