Drills for youngsters?

I am about to run my club's frist junior training session of the year and doe anybody know any good ideas for drills or fun games with youngsters (aged between 6-10) who are absolute beginners to cricket?

Dear Jack
In response to your question, I would consider running your first session with a theme to it (for example this could be batting).

After addressing the key coahcing points for the set up (grip, stance, feet etc), then move the group into a drill.
The most basic and easiest I would do is the front foot drive. It is a great start point and depending on ability you can hit off a cone or bobble feed it yourself.

KEY - MAKE SESSION ACTIVE AND FUN - you need to grab there attention early in the first session - get them onside and the rest of the season will be easy - you want them to come to cricket excited and keen.

Have a look at my attached session and see what you think as a start point.

Hope this helps
Tom

I'm not sure this is a session for 'absolute beginners'. Many 6 year olds will struggle to hit straight and I'd look to split the group by ability into beginners and more experienced.

Get them used to just hitting the ball using the bat first - 'scatter cricket' is a great way to start off. (Introduces hitting the ball and running between the wickets). I'd also use some very basic fielding drills and get them used to the idea of throwing the ball at the stumps or a target! Encourage any success and drip feed in coaching points very sparingly. Enjoyment is key!
