Defence in the circle

Defence in the circle

Why do umpires sometimes blow the defender for jumping up (and presumably shortening their distance and then other times, they do not. I have been watching a lot of international games and its so confusing.

jumping straight up is not shortening, its when they jump up and into the shooter thus shortening the distance, just depends on the umpires experience too
