You need 2 players and a high wall! Get one player to stand behind defender and throw ball high up against the wall. Defender must react & jump to catch it. Once comfortable doing this add another player to put pressure on defender by a) challenging them for the ball and b) giving a gentle shove to replicate the pushing & shoving that happens in a game (not too hard obviously or there could be injury!!) Once proficient, the new player could put defender under extra pressure by moving a little so defender has to cover her, react to rebound and pull ball in strongly with both hands!

Hi, I line my girls up on the baseline, number them 1 or 2 going along the line. They ALL stay on the baseline doing fast feet, then i yell out 1 OR 2, whatever number i call, those girls must come out in front of the player left on the baseline, they need to VERY QUICKLY get 3 feet in front of that player, hold for 2 seconds, then very quickly turn and jump back into the player standing along the baseline (so they are both facing the same direction). To make it more involved, the player being defended pretends she has a ball and waves her hands around in different directions, the player defending FOLLOWS 'the ball' with her hands. Put this into a game situation, and you always have front spot for the rebounds. (hope it all makes sense) Karen

to start with i get my defenders to stand sideway to a way with a high but reachable target on the wall (use masking tape) and they have to do 3x 1 minute calf springs with 30 second rests. then move the target higher and get them to base jumps and reach the target (feet shoulder width apart and toes facing the target) they do 3x 1.5 minute reps with 30 second rests. They then move onto facing away from the wall towards another team mate. the defender needs to have hands over the ball and the player with the ball needs to shoot it against the wall. the defender needs to turn, block the player out of the "rebound" and use their two foot base jump to catch the ball. when they master this move onto using the ring. this drill is great for centre court and shooters as well because they learn the relfexes and movements that they need to compete against
