Hi. I am a welfare worker at a primary school and had a bit of interest with playing netball in our lunch break once a week. We only have one net so we can only play half court and we have about 10 players.I only know netball through my daughter playing every weekend otherwise I've had zero experience.Do you have any suggestions how to get the girls started? Most of them never had played netball or even seen a game!Thank you
Hi Haley,
We`ve recently created a whole bunch of drills that you can perform with a limited amount of equipment/no equipment at all. They`re really great to get the girls understanding the basics of netball, beginning with the basic techniques from passing, catching, pivoting and shooting. We`d suggest starting working on these techniques first off to get the girls to understand the basic ideas of netball.
Outline the rules however at first, be quite lenient with their footwork just so that they can be allowed to develop the correct passing and catching technique without thinking too hard about the finer rules. With one hoop, you can do some great shooting drills with half of the group whilst the other half focus on their passing technique.
When working with larger groups, we also love relays which will be sure to get the girls excited about the competitive nature as well as great to test their passing and catching skills under a bit of pressure.
I hope this helps and good luck!
Tom
