how does WD defend WA on attacking circle edge ?

how does WD defend WA on attacking circle edge ?

I have been told that it is ok for WD to use their far arm, palm facing outwards across the WA, yet other coaches have questioned it as obstruction ?

Your technique is correct. The far arm if standing beside your opponent is less likely to cause contact when going for the ball. Obstruction is usually called because they are not back 3feet with their feet when defending a pass. A T defence on the circle I find more effect for the WD/C then the inside arm can be used to deflect the pass as long as no contact occurs.

The WD need to give the WA as little space as possible to move in.WD should always be between the ball and the WA in a T defence format to be able to have a better chance of intercepting the ball.

first you have to be quick thinker, always be 1 step ahead of your opponent at alltimes. You have to outplay/outrun/outwit your opponent. To do this, you need to find her weaknesses on court and use those to your advantage. first couple of passes you will have to figure out how your opponent plays eg does she get used alot for C Passes. Is she short/tall, slow, fast player. Keep her off the cirlce edge for starters. This is your greatest advantage from her being used as a passing option.Always use your outside arm to deflect all passes(ARM AWAY FROM YOUR OPPONENT).Keep your head up,feet moving and arms ready to spring out for those intercepts.goodluck
